AionAustralia is no more. I don't have the hows or the whys, but it seems that some kind of drama unfolded with the site's administrator, Chris. The kind of drama that results in an abrupt shutdown with no chance of site handover or data recovery.
It seems like us oceanic players just can't get a break. A huge network blunder kills CB6 for some, our servers are moving to the far side of the states, it doesn't look like we're going to get an officially flagged Oceanic server... and now our main community site implodes. Our only remaining community website is AionOceanic, the smaller of the two sites and for some reason, an unpopular venue for posting. The colour scheme is a little itchy on the eyes but that can't be the full of it.
In any case, the community is regrouping. The spiritual successor looks to be AionAus, still under construction at the time of writing but expected to be up and running by the end of today. Clicking on the graphic will establish a web-based IRC chat session with the #AionAus channel, where unreigned minds fumble in the dark.
Among the lost data are threads containing Oceanic legion lists and contact details, unofficial census, miscellaneous collected Aion information as well as the various community scrawls and troll shit-fling. But perhaps the most missed thread is that of the Unofficial Oceanic Server, a community decision hosted on the AionAustralia boards that will shape... or would have shaped... the very future of the Aion oceanic community. Having our community spread thinly over the entire server selection would be a disaster. AionAus looks to be hard at work salvaging the lost information and establishing a new home for the discussions but the fractured community will no doubt lose some sheep on the way to this new pasture.
I hate drama.
Update: the new forums at AionAus are up, albeit in a rough form.
